I found one in the NY Times (June 22)about the Three Gorges Dam which is expected to be the world's largest dam. I will give you brief info about the dam which is reported in the newspaper. --- The dam to be built over the famous Yangtze river (also called the river of sorrow due to its periodic floods) is expected to be the world's largest hydrolelectric dam with a capcity of 17,680 MW, will create a lake 350 miles long and will displace an approx 1.2 million people. Its chief proponents are the Communist party which expects the dam to fuel the industrial revolution. Its opponents who obviously have been overcome are the local people who fear the valley will destroy native culture, farmland and the wonderful scenery that exists and make the valley a colossal mud pie.
