This is from the hyddo-industry publication "Hydropower Review
Worldwide"
(March 1999):
Mozambique launches Zambezi River feasibility study
Mozambique has taken a major step in the proposed US$3 billion
development
of up to 2100MW of hydropower on the Zambezi River. The
government signed
a contract in January witha joint venture led by Hahmeyer
International of
Germany to conduct a feasibility study of two proposed hydro
projects: a
new 1400- to 1600-MW Mepanda Uncua project, and Cahora
Bassa North, a
500-MW expansion of the existing 2040-MW Cahora Bassa plant.
Most of the
new power would be exported to South Africa on a new 400-KV
transmission
line.
