Ex-minister speaks to Dubai NRIs on Narmada

The Times of India News Service

AHMEDABAD: Former Narmada minister Jay Narayan
Vyas, met a gathering of NRIs settled in Dubai, during
his visit to UAE, and spoke about the progress of the
Sardar Sarovar Project on River Narmada.

He also briefed the gathering about the future water
requirements of India in general and Gujarat in particular
and also emphatically placed before them that Narmada
dam is the answer for "thirsty Gujarat" in the days to
                 come.

He informed the gathering that about Rs 105 billion has
been already spent on the project so far and
approximately Rs 150 billion more will be required
during next five years for on-time implementation of the
project. He appealed to the fraternity settled in the UAE
to come forward and invest money for the noble cause.

Vyas, who was invited by Turkey to advise the
                 south-eastern Anatolia Project Regional Development
                 Administration (GAP-RDA) Plan on sustainability,
participation and regional development for enhancement
and better utilisation of resources, was at a stop over at
                 Dubai en-route to Australia.

He also referred about the obstacles being created by
the anti-dam activists under the name of environment
protection. He informed NRIs about formation of a
group - Friends of Narmada -to counter the action of
                 anti-dam activists.
