How democratic is democracy?
Come find out at a book launch with Richard Swift, author of The
No-Nonsense Guide to Democracy.
When: Monday, April 29 7-9pm
Where: Octopus Books, 116 Third Ave.
Info: 233-2589, www.octopusbooks.org

We take the pulse of today's body politic and find the patient in an
enfeebled state. Swift's book explores how democracy is constricted and
deformed by economic power-brokers and a self-serving political class, from
Birmingham to Bangalore. A sterile consensus of technocrats, neo-liberals
and spin-doctors worldwide has usurped the hopes for a democratic future.
Richard Swift is also a co-editor of the New Internationalist magazine and
is based in Toronto.
