WHY WAR?
A CBC RADIO & TELEVISION TOWN-HALL MEETING and ONLINE DISCUSSION FORUM
Tues., Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. 


CBC Radio and Television have invited a panel of experts and special 
guests to lead us in a discussion about dealing with "rogue states". 
See panelist biographies. Join hosts Brent Bambury and Rita Celli for 
a public forum on the threat of war with Iraq. Join Evan Dyer for an 
online forum.

Some say war against Iraq is inevitable, some say there are other options.
What role do Canadians want to take as the U.S. appears to march 
towards war? Do we sign up or do we stand apart?

TOWNHALL FORUM:
Ottawa City Hall Council Chambers, 110 Laurier Ave., Ottawa.
Admission is free, but space is limited.

Broadcast live on CBC Radio One from Kingston to Cornwall from 8 - 9 
p.m., Tue. Feb. 4.

Panelists

Marcus Gee
Marcus Gee is an award-winning columnist [war-monger] with the Globe 
and Mail. Each week, he offers his analysis on a wide range of 
international topics, including the possible war in Iraq.

Saad Kiryakos
Professor Saad Kiryakos has born in Baghdad and immigrated to Canada 
twenty two years ago. He visits Iraq regularly to see his family. His 
most recent trip was in December 2002 as part of an official 
parliamentary delegation.
Professor Kiryakos currently teaches economics at the University of Ottawa.

Peggy Mason
Peggy Mason served as Canada's Ambassador for Disarmament from 1989 to 1994.
Currently, she is an external faculty member with the Pearson 
Peacekeeping Centre in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Ms. Mason presented a 
list of options on how to deal with Iraq to the Government's 
committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade last fall.

David Pratt
David Pratt is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Nepean-Carleton. 
He was first elected in 1997. Since then, he has served on several 
standing committees including the National Defence and Veterans 
Affairs committee. Following his re-election in 2000, Mr. Pratt was 
elected the Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on 
National Defence and Veterans Affairs. He was re-elected as Chair of 
the National Defence & Veterans Affairs Committee in 2001.

John Sigler
Professor John Sigler is a professor of Political Science and 
International Affairs, Carleton University, Ottawa. His career began 
as a foreign services officer in Washington. He has written and 
commented extensively on Canada-US Relations and on the Middle East. 
Professor Sigler is currently researching the stalemate in 
Arab-Israeli peace efforts, religion and politics in the Middle East. 
John Sigler responds to U.S. President, George W. Bush and his State 
of the Union address January 28, 2003.
