Professor Don McCabe will discuss the results of his ongoing series of
student and faculty surveys of academic dishonesty in which he has
surveyed over 50,000 students at more than 100 college and university
campuses in the U.S. and Canada. In particular, he will focus on the
results of a recently completed Internet survey of over 25,000
undergraduate students, 3,000 graduate students, 4,000 faculty and 1,000
teaching assistants at 11 Canadian and 19 U.S. colleges and universities.
He will highlight the growing problem of Internet plagiarism and the
increasing incidence of the use of calculators, cell phones and
electronic technologies by students to cheat on tests and examinations.

Utilizing data from his decade long work, he will discuss strategies
being used on a growing number of campuses in the U.S. to change student,
and faculty, attitudes concerning academic dishonesty. He will place a
particular emphasis on the concept of modified honor codes, a strategy
gaining increasing popularity among major U.S. universities.

Don McCabe is a Professor of Organization Management at Rutgers
University. He is also the founding president of the Center for Academic
Integrity, a consortium of over 300 colleges and universities who are
